Week 11 – KIPP Houston at St. Anthony

Posted on 11/13/201711/04/2025 by Mark

On Saturday, I was at Lang field as the St. Anthony hosted a TCAL playoff game against KIPP Houston.  Yes, the St. Anthony Yellow Jackets football team are in the playoffs.  Now, to be honest, I don’t know how the competition is in TCAL as compared to TAPP; but it looks easier to me.

When I first heard that St. Anthony would be hosting a playoff game at home, I knew I had to show up to  support them; I was really looking forward to it.  So, when I told my wife, she was excited because it would be a great opportunity to bring Niko, our 18-month old son, to the game.

I was also excited to bring them to the game and also not sure how Niko would fare since he hasn’t been napping great for the past few weeks; he hasn’t napped in the car in a few months.

Well, Niko slept for about 45 minutes on our drive down; traffic lights on 281 woke him up.  I will say it was very nice having him and Nina with me at the game, even if Niko looked super tired.  And, yes, I was extremely distracted and wasn’t my normal self.  Because of his tiredness, we left at Halftime.  The three of us got rejuvenated at Max and Louie’s New York Diner on 281 and Bitters and were delighted to be joined by my Aunt Bobi, my mom’s sister, since she was leaving but when she saw us, she came back in.  And, then after we left, she went to sit with somebody else whom she knew.

The St. Anthony Yellow Jackets defeated KIPP Houston by a score of 56 to 6.  St. Anthony scored on their very 1st play of the game, they had defensive scores, and more touchdown runs.  They really looked like a different team from when I saw them in Week 3 when they lost a triple OT game to Cornerstone.

Next game for St. Anthony is the TCAL State Semi Final Friday in Chilton at Featherwood stadium against Tomball Christian at 4pm.  They played earlier this season and Tomball Christian defeated St. Anthony 26 to 21.  You know something, I am so proud of everything St. Anthony has accomplished this season and win or lose next week, they have a bright future.

On Friday, I will be at Ranger stadium as the Smithson Valley Rangers host the Jay Mustangs in the 1st round of the 6A Division II playoffs.
