Ode To My Wife – Part 4

Posted on 10/30/201704/19/2025 by Mark

My wife is a stay-at-home and a work-from-home mom; how she balances these in addition to taking care of me and Franklin, I have no clue.  All I do know is she is doing an awesome job and I really appreciate everything she does.  She deserves more than an ode; she deserves a hug and a kiss from me and Niko.  Franklin can meow on her face!

Nobody thinks about how hard it is being home all day with a 17-month old baby; he will be 18-months old on Thursday. It’s definitely more than a fulltime job.

On the weekends, Niko and I get a lot of time together because mom is either working, cooking, or relaxing.  I may try to take Niko all day next weekend; mainly to give Nina some alone time and also I need to see how he does being out all day; and that includes napping him at my parents house.

I love my time with Niko and cherish every minute on the weekends; I don’t get much time during with him during the weekday.  I get to put him in his crib for nighttime and that is a special bond for us.  I sing songs and his little head always rests on my shoulder.  I also get to put him in the crib for a nap.  Yes, nap as in one daily.  We really want him to have a 2 1/2 hour nap around 12ish and we haven’t quite gotten that far yet.  Right now, we are at 11am or 11:30am and he sleeps for about 1 1/2 hours.  But, he is sleeping great throughout the night and that is a very nice for us.  After I put him in the crib for nighttime, I make sure Nina is OK and then I head downstairs to do my stuff; most of the time I eat dinner and write.  I also write and eat when he naps, but am rushing because I don’t know when he will wake-up. Napping for me hasn’t happened in several weeks and I think I need to nap at least one day on the weekends; I always feel refreshed afterwards.

Nina often tells me, even though I have to get up early; 6:15am, for work, I don’t have to change dirty diapers, I don’t have to read the same book 500 times, I get scheduled breaks and lunches, I can pee and poo when I need to, and I don’t have to deal with screaming fits while I am at work.  She has to plan and think about all those things.

Next month, I am taking a lot of my vacation from work and am very much looking forward to family time.  I always seem to take the week after Thanksgiving off and Nina has done the same thing.  In 2015 for that week, we went on a cruise.  We didn’t do anything last year because of Niko and aren’t planning a cruise this year; it will be day trips around the area.  And, I will try to stay away from writing for that week.
