Since June 2nd, Niko has been sleeping wonderfully in his bedroom for nighttime and since June 5th, I have been sleeping wonderfully in my bedroom. If you do the math, I slept with him; not in the crib, but on the air mattress, for his first few days just to make sure he was OK throughout the night.
I must admit and tell you it’s really weird and quiet when Nina and I are in our bedroom; but at the same time also very nice. We can leave the door and curtains open, we can talk; without the possibility of waking up a sleeping baby, I can write, I can read an eBook, I can eat, and I can drink. And, the best thing is once we eventually go to sleep, we can get at least 9 solid continuous hours of sleep. Something we have done since Niko began sleeping in his bedroom is we have kept the cat downstairs; so he can’t meow outside the bedroom doors all night long.
Niko is in the throwing stage of his early life; he throws food and toys. Most of the toys that can hurt us have been put away and although the food isn’t fun to clean-up off the floor, we are trying different things to stop him from throwing food and nothing is working! How can you teach a 13-month old to stop throwing food? You can’t attempt to punish or yell because he doesn’t understand; he thinks it’s funny.
Last year for my 1st Fathers Day, Niko was only 7-weeks old. The three of us, her Mom, my parents, and my brother met at Bill Miller BBQ for breakfast tacos. Not extravagant, but it was easy, quick, yummy, and very close to our house. We ate quickly and as soon as Niko cried, we bolted home.
This year he is 13 months old and much more active; basically we didn’t have eat and run home. I enjoy being out with my son and wife; Niko doesn’t get out much during the week and he just loves the chaotic world of people and things.
The three of us, her Mom, my parents, and my brother met at Sea Island on Saturday, a local seafood restaurant and afterwards I dragged everybody to Buc-ee’s.
At Sea Island, I ordered a platter that came with fried fish, a cup of gumbo, fried shrimp, charcoal shrimp, and I got a side of grilled shrimp; the baby and I shared the grilled shrimp. I like shrimp! When I went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Galveston one year before a cruise, I purchased a t-shirt with all the different kinds of shrimp.
Buc-ee’s is a large convenience store with sparkling restrooms, lots of gas pumps, lots of fun eclectic snack foods, lots of Texas/Buc-ee’s apparel, and better hot/cold food than the other convenience stores. They also have dippin’ dots ice cream; I didn’t get any this time around. But, several years ago on our way back from a cruise, we stopped at another Buc-ee’s location and Nina fed me dippin’ dots as I drove us home. I got lots of salt water taffy, honey roasted pecans, roasted and salted sunflower seeds, sour cream and onion chips, white cheddar popcorn, and an A&W cream soda.
Last weekend, we went to Costco and we got some Brownie Brittle; which we ate 2 bags of them very quickly. See, if you provide us with sweets, it gets eaten. Well, she ordered a sampler box of them and they arrived on Saturday after we got home. I can’t wait to eat some at home and at work; yes, I am taking some of that along with some stuff from Buc-ee’s to work. I just hope my co-workers don’t get offended when I start noshing on delicious snacks in front of them because I am not offering them anything; I am a bit selfish. I am just kidding; I will share with my co-workers.
I got cards, a gift card to Sea Island; which we will definitely use; and more Amazon money. Man, just because I had unprotected sex with my wife and just like every other man in the world who have kids, we get to celebrate that! To me, everyday is Father’s Day, because I get to see him laugh, smile, talk, play, eat, sleep, bathe, and walk around the house; sometimes without a shirt and just a diaper and just recently, he has learned to take his diaper off. I love being a dad.
On Sunday, we stayed in; mainly because it was too hot outside, and I took a nice 75 minute nap in my bedroom. I also played with Niko, went for an early morning walk with him and Nina, and to top off everything, we went to the pool late in the afternoon.
