On Friday, Niko turned 13 months old. OK, so when can I stop referring to his age in months?
Niko has several words in his vocabulary and his favorites this week are: out and up.
Out…because he loves to go out and explore the world. He doesn’t understand that sometimes we can’t go out because of the heat. But, when we do, he looks and points at everything. I wish we lived closer to civilization where we could take him places. When we moved to Canyon Lake, we didn’t think we would have a baby with us. Had we known, we probably would’ve moved somewhere else (preferably close to parks and indoor shopping). Wait, the house we moved from in San Antonio met those criteria. We sold it because we needed something bigger. Oh well.
Up…because he gets to crawl up the stairs. Yes, he crawls up the stairs (of course with supervision). He waits for us to open the gate and then he is off and most of the time, the cat runs past him. Now, crawling down won’t happen for a long time.
Last weekend, we nap trained him in his bedroom in the pack and play and he did absolutely fantastic. I know his pack and play mattress pad isn’t as comfy as the crib mattress pad, so I decided to move the crib in his room on Friday for nighttime. I slept on the air mattress which isn’t as comfy as my bed, but I had to do it to make sure he was ok throughout the night.
I put him in the crib on Friday night at 7:40pm and he cried for less than 30 seconds. Probably was like where’s dad? I went in an hour later. I heard a few whimpers throughout the night but no screaming. At 2:40am, he screamed and when I turned on the camera on my phone to look, he was standing up. It was really dark and I didn’t want to turn a light. So, I got him and he slept on me until 4:45am. At that point, I knew I could go in our bedroom and wake up Nina so she could feed him. After he finished eating, he slept on me until 8am.
Since it is hot where we live, I took for a very short walk up and down our street after we all ate breakfast on Saturday. When I got back home, I told Nina right now would be a perfect time to go to the neighborhood pool. It would be Niko’s 1st time in a pool and I was very glad nobody was there to ruin it for us. He loved it and was smiling because mom and dad were in with him. I didn’t want her do it without me for the 1st time, but now she can go anytime and that is actually good because sometimes in the mid afternoon, Nina doesn’t know what to do with Niko.
On Saturday, I put him in the crib for nighttime at 7:45pm and he didn’t cry at all. Maybe the pool tired him out or maybe he was just tired because he didn’t nap well. Usually when he doesn’t nap well, we know it is something like teething or the possibility of his stomach hurting. I went in an hour later and he didn’t get up till 2am. I grabbed him and we slept together till 5am. I kept thinking about putting him back in the crib, but I was so tired and couldn’t move. At 5am, we woke up mom for food. After he finished with mom, he slept on me till 7:45am.
On Sunday, I was planning on sleeping in my bedroom, but that didn’t happen because something was still hurting him (although, by the time we put him in the crib, he was already acting better). He got some good poops out, had a lot for dinner, and had a lot of mommy and goat milk. Yes, we have started giving him goat mail since he turned 1.
So, I put him in the crib on Sunday at 8:15 and he didn’t cry at all. I went in 25 minutes later. And, for the 3rd night in a row, he woke up a few minutes before 3am. Now, I don’t know if he wakes up because he knows I am in the room or is it something else? I could let him cry for a few minutes and see what happens, but I want my baby! I do know that he is sleepy because he goes right back to sleep on me. At 5:30am, we both woke up; Niko got mommy milk and I had to get ready for work.
Tonight, I am sleeping in my bedroom and I am very much looking forward to that. It is really weird being in the bedroom in the evening without Niko and white-noise. Nina still isn’t happy about moving him from the bedroom to his room, but we had to it for the sake of everybody. Whenever he wakes up, I will get him. Hopefully, he will sleep till 5:30am or 6am.
