I survived year 1 as a dad and it was awesome, tiring, and a lot of work. And, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Before we even consider having another child, we want to give Niko a few years to be spoiled and of course, we want him to be fully potty trained. So, grandparents, it may not be till late 2019 or early 2020.
I know Niko had a great time because every time he sees me, he smiles and says dada!! Man, that is the best feeling in the world (and it doesn’t even matter what time that is).
To celebrate, we didn’t do anything extravagant like some people do for their kid’s 1st birthday party. We (or shall I say Nina baked a cake) so he could smash it and get it all over his body.
After he finished eating dinner, we stripped him and put him into the pool (it was the 1st time for that) and he enjoyed splashing and was caught off guard when I decided to stick my face in the pool (I was hot and it felt really good, plus, it amused the baby).
Niko had no clue what the heck was happening but never fussed about any part of the celebration. He was probably also tired of hearing the same song all day from us and family members.
I don’t know what was more fun for me…watching him smash and eat it, cleaning him up afterwards in a cheap 2 ring blowup pool from Walmart, or watching Nina make the cake all day a few days ago.
Our gift to him is tomorrow he has his 1 year check-up appointment and with that comes shots. Mean parents!
