One year ago today, Nina and I made the announcement to the Facebook and Twitter universe that we were pregnant (ok, I wasn’t pregnant but I helped with it). Our announcement wasn’t anything spectacular like you see these days. I wore a t-shirt that said THE MAN BEHIND THE BUMP and Nina wore a little skeleton on the outside of her dress (you know to show that a baby was inside).
A few week prior to this huge announcement, we told our family.
We told Nina’s mom and my brother about the website we designed for Niko. Nina was learning coding and wanted to showoff her basic skills.
We told Nina’s brother that he was going to be Uncle. His reply was, I know, Peggy’s (his wife) sister is expecting. It took him a few seconds to realize that was his littler sister who was pregnant.
We told my parents that Nina got some new clothes, but they didn’t fit. What we pulled out of her purse was a onesie!!!
We told Nina’s dad and stepmom to call us before they opened a special package (which contained a grandpa shirt) since they live out of the state. Well, they called us but after they opened it!!!
I am Facebook friends with most of my co-workers (so, that is how they found out) and for the ones that weren’t, I showed them the picture of our Halloween costume. It took some of them a few seconds to figure it out.
This year, I wore the same shirt and Niko was dressed as a skeleton. No new announcement this year!!! If Nina and I choose to have another baby, it won’t happen for a few years. All of the clothes and equipment that Niko has outgrown have been packed up nicely for possible future use.
I can’t wait for next Halloween because Niko will be a year a half old and I can dress up and eat all of his candy!!!
I love being a dad, I love coming home from work and seeing his face and smile, I love holding him, I love watching him sleep on my stomach, I love watching him sleep in the crib, I love making him laugh, I love changing his diaper, I love dressing him, I love handing him to his mother for food, I love carrying him when we go out, I love singing to him, I love reading to him, I love talking to him, I love making faces at him, I love giving him bathes, I love playing with him, I love his expressions, I love hearing him babble, and I love watching him grow.
See, the rewards are fantastic!!! Yes, it is hard work and I can use a lot more sleep, but, that doesn’t matter.
Niko is so fortunate to have such loving and caring parents. You three are the very best!
Beautiful !
