Football VS Niko

Posted on 10/19/201604/19/2025 by Mark

Besides being a daddy to an almost 6 month old baby, I am also a high school football writer/photographer for St. Anthony football.  Of course, when I am at a football game, I miss Nina and Niko and whenever I see a baby, I always smile and have an urge to cradle them in my arms.  When I see a text notification from my wife, I stop what I am doing (even if I am about to be run over by players) and pray that it is a picture of Niko doing something silly or sleeping!!!

It is challenging for me to find time to write, but when it comes to the baby and Nina, I know when to stop.  Luckily, I don’t have any deadlines!!!

Next Saturday, they are coming with me to a St. Anthony football game and I am super excited!!   I can’t wait to show them off!!!   They won’t be in the stands far away from me; they will actually be on the field close to me because their stadium doesn’t have a lot of permanent seating.  Nina has come to a game before with me, but that was when I was doing stats in the press-box.  This will be the first time she will join me as a writer/photographer…basically, I have a lot more freedom and if needed can tend to her and Niko throughout the game.

This season, I have really scaled my business operations down to a bare minimum and I am really glad because I am not worn or stressed out!!! Yes, I am tired but that is something I will have to live with for a little while longer.   It was both an easy and hard decision for me because I love writing and taking photos and have been involved with San Antonio high school football since 1997.

Normally, I would be working 2 or 3 games per week beginning the last week of August and ending the week before Christmas (that is when the state championships are).    But, it could end earlier (and that all depends on how far our San Antonio teams go).  Hopefully, next season, I can get myself back on track.
