Since September 2nd, Niko has been sleeping in the crib over-night. He hasn’t yet slept thru the night and Nina and I are OK with that. Hey, he is only 4 1/2 months old and he needs his “mommy milk.” After he eats, he goes right back to sleep in the crib (this usually happens around Midnight). He does wake up again for more food early in the morning (usually about an hour before my work alarm goes off which is set for 6). Depending on how sleepy the baby is and my physical state of mind, I either put him in the crib or let him sleep next to me. If I do have a baby sleeping next to me, I try to put him in the crib after a few minutes (but sometimes I fall asleep) so he may end up in the crib at 6 or with Mom for cuddling and feeding and sleeping (that sounds better than getting ready for work). No fair!!!
Man, it is really nice that Nina and I can sleep comfortably and not have to worry about waking the baby when we move just a little bit. And, I know Niko likes sleeping in the crib because he has a lot of room to spread out.
Because the night-time is going really good, Nina decided to tackle naps in the crib. Yes, he cries LOUD and that upsets Nina. For his first nap, last Thursday, I got a very detailed play-by-play via text messaging and I was also able to view the baby monitor while I was at work. During one of his naps that day, I told Nina to take a nap with him and for once in my life, she actually listened to me!!! She needs to do that as often as possible.
Weekdays and weekends are very different mainly because I home on the weekends. On Saturday, we tried to put him in the crib around 8:45 for a nap (he had already been awake for a few hours and had done naked tummy time for about 30 minutes). But, Niko wanted no part of a nap and cried for 30 minutes. Nothing worked to calm him down so we gave up!!! No worries folks because Niko got to sleep on me for 45 minutes in a very comfy rocking chair and he also got some really nice long naps in the car that afternoon.
The same thing happened on Sunday for his morning and afternoon naps. But, again, I got him to nap on me for an hour in the rocking chair in the morning and he slept next to me in the bed in the afternoon (yes, we slept also because we were exhausted). I kinda think the reason he didn’t nap in the crib was because I was home and he knows, he can sleep on me or next to me!!! We will see what happens on Monday.
I am very glad his crib naps this weekend (or lack there off) didn’t hurt his night-time crib sleep…Saturday, I put him in the crib at 8:09 and he was asleep at 8:09. Sunday, it took about 30 minutes.
Well, I won’t keep you in suspense about Monday. He took 2 naps in the crib today, one long and one short. For his long nap this morning, he cried for 45 minutes and this afternoon, he cried for 10 minutes. Crap, it was me!!!
I guess the good thing is on Saturday, we are planning on taking Niko to the local rodeo so hopefully, he will get naps in the car and in the stroller. Sunday, we will see what happens!!!!
