first time alone with niko

Posted on 07/25/201604/19/2025 by Mark
On Saturday, I met a friend of mine for lunch and since it was in the same shopping center as HEB (the local grocery store), Nina and Niko came with me.  I actually need to rephrase that and say Nina went grocery shopping and I took the baby!!!  Yes, it was the first time I had the baby out of the house alone and it was also the first time Nina was without the baby.  Of course I was nervous the night before because I had no clue what state the baby would be in.  I didn’t want to be one of those people who has a crying baby and has to immediately take them outside or in my case, I didn’t want to run away from lunch and walk around frantically at HEB looking for Nina (or anybody else who would rescue me).

But, no worries the day of because Nina and I had everything planned and it went very smooth.  And, I was very glad!!

Basically, I had a whole hour to have lunch and because we (I mean Nina) fed Niko right before we left, he was a very happy talkative dude in the restaurant.  I brought him in in the car-seat and as soon as I finished stuffing my mouth with a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings, I took him out and carried him in my arms.  When I got the text from Nina that she was checking out, I put him back in the car-seat and had to end my lunch date.  Hopefully, next time, I can have more time with my friend because we both like to talk.

Being the great husband and father that I am, I picked Nina up, loaded all the groceries in the trunk, put the frozen stuff in a cooler, and tried to find a place in the shade so Nina could feed the baby again.  No luck with finding shade, but thank god we have a/c in the car!!!  When we eventually got home about an hour later, I was again a great husband and father as I first made sure Nina and Niko were good (she had to feed him again and I had to feed and quench Nina), then I had to unload almost $200 worth of groceries, and then I had to put everything away.
