One week after Niko was born, we had his first pediatrician appointment and a follow-up appointment for blood work from the hospital. Yes, we hadn’t even had Niko home for 2 days!!! Even though we were sleep deprived and physically and mentally exhausted, we had to dive in and just do it. Throughout the weekend, we had actually been walking Niko in his strollers for both practice and sunshine for him. My wife already had the diaper bag packed with baby supplies. Would you believe that she had it mostly packed along with baby boxes for both cars and the downstairs — before the baby was born?
So, basically what I am trying to say is that we were ready for this adventure. I had no clue what to expect from us and Niko but we passed with flying colors and even added a 3rd stop to the grocery store for 4 things. We only had to change his diaper once at the pediatrician’s office and breastfed him there as well. Nina also breastfed in public at the hospital and nobody gave us a look – probably because it was normal.
Since that first day out, we have taken Niko to the Canyon Lake Dam (with her Dad), Wal-Mart (with my parents), the pediatrician’s office again for his 2-week check-up, the Comal County clerk’s office so we could get his birth certificate, and to the Pottery Barn outlet in San Marcos (we are looking for a comfy glider rocking chair). He has already been in both cars and the car seat is super easy to get in and out and attach and detach to the strollers. Yes, strollers…we have 2. Our next day out with Niko is going to be in San Antonio as Nina and I have dental appointments.
Before we stepped inside of the Pottery Barn, Nina had to breastfeed Niko so we sat on a bench under a tree in front of the store and did our thing. I am pretty sure people saw us, but nobody stared at her breast and we were never asked to leave the premises. It is a natural and beautiful thing for ladies to do in public.
Something else that is beautiful but not yet natural for ladies is going topless in public (free the nipple). Men can do it so why can’t ladies? Probably because men’s nipples don’t get people turned as much as the female nipple. Just wait, because it will happen soon.
Now, when it comes to going bottomless in public, that may never happen!!!
