With less than 2 weeks to the much anticipated due date of our son, we are anxiously playing the waiting game. Every time I see Nina wince or moan in pain, I think this could be the end of the game, but she promises me that I will know when the game is over because the pain will be much worse. I hope I am home when it happens because I want to be with her from start to finish.
I am really looking forward to changing a diaper at 6am instead of getting dressed for work. I will be taking 4 weeks off (the company provides me with 2 weeks and my manager is allowing me to use 2 weeks of my vacation) both with pay!! I have never taken that much time off at once and I just hope I don’t get stir crazy at home. I don’t think that’ll happen because I will have a lot to do.
I am ready, prepared, excited, and nervous for this baby. I have a lot to learn — like how to change a diaper and how to hold a baby. Yes, I have never done either in my 39 years as an adult. When I did get opportunities to hold a baby, I refused!!! No refusing anymore. And, when it comes to changing diapers, only my rear gets my special treatment and sometimes, I gag because of the smell. No gagging anymore. Something else I gag at is smelly trash and we will have a lot of it — hopefully, the diaper pails will help in the smell.
I picked up the diaper pails (yes, we got 2 — one for upstairs and one for downstairs) last Friday from Wal-Mart and when I saw the boxes they were shipped in, I was very surprised because the picture online looked really small but in fact they are actually large diaper pails.
I still can’t believe that I am going to be a Dad. I never expected it to happen and Nina and I almost gave up.
When we bring the baby home, that is going to be a weird feeling because we are so used to us (I have known Nina since 2007) and Franklin cat (we adopted him in 2011). Now, we will have a baby, us, and Franklin cat (a complete family).
I have a feeling that the first thing we will do when we come home with hairless monkey boy is lay down in bed, gaze into each other’s eyes, and just laugh and cry and marvel over the fact that we created a beautiful human being. Welcome to our world baby boy!!!
