Week 36 and What Type Of Dad Will I be?

Posted on 04/10/201604/19/2025 by Mark
Today, we are beginning Week 36 which means our little dude will be coming out soon.  We already have our hospital bags packed and they are in my car.  Nina even has a bag of stuff by the front door so she can grab it quickly.   We are still working on gathering snacks to eat!!

Last Saturday, the Comal county fire department installed a very nice reflective street number sign just in case she calls an ambulance in a few weeks.  But, hopefully, I will be home to take her.  I am glad that my job changed their Parental Leave Policy from 1 week to 2 weeks.  In addition to that, I will be using 2 weeks of my vacation so all together, I am taking 4 weeks off (maybe more if I stay at home with Nina for the last week).

I don’t have a “Honey Do Baby List” anymore because the last things on it for me are to clean the cars (I am going to take care of Nina’s car on Thursday as hers will require extensive work inside and outside and mine just needs a vacuum and a really quick wash) and finish cleaning grout.

Nina has been making a lot of food for freezing and I can’t wait to put lasagna, chicken curry, bread, sausage and peppers, soup, pork, and all the fun frozen stuff we got from Costco in my mouth.  I know we will be very happy that we won’t have to think about cooking as we will be busy with our son.  I also know that family members will be happy to make or bring us food as well.

I still can’t fathom the fact that I am going to be a dad.  Just sounds strange!!   It actually got me thinking about what type of dad I will be.

Now, let me tell you that Nina and I were raised very differently with the primary difference being both of my parents raised me and Nina’s parents got divorced when she was 13.

My parents always supported and provided me with whatever I needed.  Soon, I will have to pay them back for everything they did for me.  Oh wait, they will be first time grandparents — that is enough, correct?

Yes, I had my share of temper tantrums, curse words coming out of my mouth, screaming fits, slamming doors, and anger toward my parents but I don’t remember ever being punished or hit by my parents.  This is where I need their help to shed some light (maybe, I can have them write a Daddy Diaries for me)!!

So, back to what type of dad will I be?
1. Compassionate
2. Reliable
3. Strict
4. Cool
5. Relaxed
6. Laid-back
7. Fun
8. Loving
9. Responsible
10. Smart
11. Flexible
12. Teacher
13. Student
