So, now you’re probably wondering what childhood toys do I still have?
I got a few GI Joe’s left (along with some very small weapons that they carry). Unless you count small baseball bats (I got a San Francisco Giants bat in my car), I am weapon-less. Wait, do frying pans count as weapons? I do have a water-gun at the front door, but is only used when Nina is bad…I mean, when the neighbors dogs use our yard as a toilet, they get squirted. I also squirt squirrels when they are on the bird feeder.
I have a HUGE box of Matchbox cars. I probably played with those the most. I even had carrying cases for when I would go to my friends’ houses. I am sure Chasen Croft and Seth Miller remember!!
I have 2 small boxes of Legos. I had a 3rd very large box but that has been gone for a long time. Nina likes Legos and I have gotten her very easy things to put together (like 40 pieces)! Hey, they are usually impulse purchases at Target when I am checking out.
One of my favorite toys was a small Tonka truck. I pushed this truck all over the house, but most of the time I did circles around the kitchen and bar top. It has a little front end damage because I crashed into things, but I think I can take it to a dealership to have them fix it for me!
In our shed is a kids sized green beach chair. And, in my parent’s garage is a wooden chest. Now, I don’t know if these belonged to me or my brother, but it doesn’t matter now because my son will be putting his butt in that chair and his toys in the chest. My father is going to work on the chest (it needs some small repairs, but it is actually in pretty good shape despite being in the garage for many years).
Also in my parent’s garage was a box that contained some children books and a few easy puzzles. Those are now with me and are in the baby’s room.
I hope he likes baseball/basketball cards because I have 2 unopened boxes of 1990-1991 Hoops basketball cards. I donated all of my non valuable cards (it was a lot) last month to Roy Maas Youth Alternatives. I still have a nice amount of semi valuable cards that I can pass down to my son.
I wish I had my building blocks. I used to love building things and then watching them fall. I guess, we will buy new ones!! I can see it now…the baby has built a castle and not even a second later, Franklin cat meows and knocks it down with his tail. Baby is now crying and Nina and I are laughing because the cart scared himself. No worries about a crying baby as we will console him and tell him to start over. Just another life lesson.
When the baby is old enough to move out (hopefully, at age 8!!), I will give him my armoire and matching night-table that belonged to my grandfather.
Oh, something else he will get after Nina and I die is my Beatles collection. This collection isn’t as valuable as you think, but I will have to tell him (just like I told Nina) to NEVER SELL ANYTHING BUT GIVE IT TO A BEATLES MUSEUM OR TO OTHER BEATLES FANS.
I didn’t want to end on a death note, so I will say that yesterday was my parent’s 47th wedding anniversary and they spent a few days at the beach (yes, we do have beach’s in Texas) and they got the baby an awesome hat from the Corpus Christi Aquarium. And, I got super excited because soon Nina and I will have to find kid friendly places for us to visit.
Last week and this weekend, I scratched something off on my “Honey Do Baby List” and that was clean the fridge and defrost and clean the chest freezer. It was really easy and I actually enjoyed doing it. They both look brand new. This Saturday, we are planning a trip to Costco for house supplies and food (that is why I cleaned our fridge and freezer). I am estimating we will spend about $500!!!
Before we moved into our house, we did a Costco run only for house supplies. It was so nice having toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent, dish soap, sponges, bottled water, and trash bags (just to name a few things we purchased) at the house when we moved in. Those items will definitely be on our list again along with paper plates and plastic utensils and a bunch of fun frozen things. I know that when the baby arrives, things are going to be chaotic and we aren’t going to want to deal with real dishes and utensils and the after effects of rinsing them and then eventually throw them gently into the dishwasher. Nina is so smart that she has been cooking food (soup and lasagna) and freezing them for future eating. I know, she is awesome and she rocks my world and I love her so much.
Next weekend, I am going to pack my Daddy bag (clothes only) for the hospital!!! I won’t be able to get everything because I can’t go to work naked. I know we have a few weeks, but once I do it, I don’t have to worry about it because as May 8th gets closer, I will become more and more paranoid and nervous and be really fun to be with (just ask Nina). For the other stuff like my phone, camera, tablet, and my laptop, I will email myself a list because that will be a last minute thing.
