When the CW35 Thursday Night Lights schedule was released, I was very excited to see this particular game.
Mainly because Antonian is a small private Catholic school (this was also the first time a TAPPS school has been on TNL). They only have about 35 student-athletes on the team which means a lot of them play both sides of the ball. Plus, the Apaches have a running back, Daniel Rosenfeld, who last year as a sophomore rushed for 1,913 yards and had 27 touchdowns.
Boerne is also small school (not Catholic) and has about the same number of student-athletes which again means, they play both ways. Plus, Boerne has a quarterback, Quinten Dormady, who has committed to play college ball at the University of Tennessee (his college coach was at the game on Thursday night). Dormady’s Dad is the head coach at Boerne and I always preach this, but coaches kids are smart and know how to play the game.
Last year, Dormady missed the entire season with an injury. Two years ago, as a sophomore, Dormady had over 3,000 yards passing with 27 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. I worked one of his games as a sophomore and he was very impressive…21 of 33 passing for 266 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interceptions. That was a TV game!!
So, basically, this game was supposed to be Rosenfeld VS Dormady…but, unfortunately, Rosenfeld was hurt and only played in the first series and that was all folks. Dormady put up Dormady numbers!!!
I really want to see a healthy Rosenfeld and am eyeing a game on 10/25/2014 as Antonian visits St. Anthony (hopefully, he will be fully healthy by that game). Why St. Anthony and not another team…well, it is a Saturday game and for the past 2 years I have had the pleasure of hanging with the St. Anthony basketball team and head coach, Kevin Smisek. His son, Nico Smisek, is the starting running back at Churchill High School. Yeah, most of the St. Anthony folks know me!!!
My stats were not only used on TV but their was also a Texas Sports Radio Network crew…so, I allowed them to use my stats. All I asked of Eric Johnson was a promo plug, which he said he did!!! Man, Don Harris, also plugged my BLOG on TV again for my Alamo stadium renovation photos. We have a TNL game at Alamo stadium on 10/9/14 and 10/16/14 and dude, I can’t wait to get in the press-box (the first BLOG will very likely be a lengthy one). Just so you know, I got inside access to both Alamo stadium and the Alamo Convocation Center during the renovations. It was awesome!!
Hey, those photos have been published on several websites, a book, on television (during the CW35 Thursday Night Lights games last season), on KSAT 12 last year, and on KABB FOX 29 last month. I even got to talk about them on a podcast.
Folks, I wasn’t in my stat comfort zone because I was on the right side with a camera directly in front of me (that camera was focused on the scoreboard). I like being on the left side, but I don’t complain, I adapt to the room and make it work.

I didn’t really know what to expect from the game…would it be a blow-out or a close game? I prefer close games but the Greyhounds didn’t get that memo. Boerne won the game by a score of 34 to 0.
The Apaches ran 49 plays for 148 yards. Daniel Rosenfeld had 2 carries for 0 yards, Phillip Guillaume had 7 carries for 35 yards, Nick Marin had 12 carries for 41 yards, and Connor Chakales had 9 carries for 35 yards. The leading receiver was Steven Wynn (not to be confused with Steve Winwood) with 2 receptions for 37 yards. I was very impressed with Marin and Chakales and they are both underclassmen along with Rosenfeld.
The Greyhounds ran 59 plays for 433 yards. Quinten Domady was 22 of 37 passing for 321 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions (in 4 games this season, he has over 1,200 yards passing with 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions). Oh, he also had 10 carries for 62 yards with 1 touchdown. Let me add that up (it’s my job)…383 total yards and 3 touchdowns!!! WOW!!! I think I have my Week 4 player of the week!
Eli Davis had 8 receptions for 147 yards and both touchdowns, Will McClure had 3 receptions for 40 yards, and David Snelling had 7 receptions for 88 yards. I was extremely impressed with Dormady and his core of receivers.
Next Thursday, I will be at Farris stadium as the O’Connor Panthers play the Jay Mustangs. The Jay quarterback, Moses Reynolds, is one of my players on my watch list for this season. So, far this season, he has 620 yards passing with 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and 789 yards rushing with 12 touchdowns. Man, last week, Moses had 24 carries for 352 yards with 7 touchdowns. I want a repeat of that!!! WOW!!! And, he is only a junior!!!
And, on Friday, I will be at Lehnhoff stadium as the Clemens Buffaloes host the Judson Rockets in the first district game.
