Week 1 – Central Catholic Buttons VS Lanier Voks at ALAMO STADIUM — GUEST BLOGGER

Posted on 08/31/201411/04/2025 by Mark
The first football game at the RENOVATED Alamo stadium took place last Thursday.  Since I was working another game, I wanted to get a guest blogger to write about it.

Yeah, I was disappointed as I have photographed the renovations from start to finish.  They have been published on websites, a book, and on television (KSAT12, CW35, and FOX29).  I even got to talk about them on a podcast.

Carlos Enrico, the Athletic Director and Valerie Molbert, an English/Journalism teacher at Central Catholic High School hooked me up with a GUEST BLOGGER and I am so appreciative. THANKS!!!

In South Texas’ first regular season football game of the year, backed by their solid defense and continual support from the fans, the Central Catholic Buttons exemplified their new family unity, coaching staff, and senior leadership through a shutout win on Thursday night at the new Alamo Stadium.

The first half consisted of working out the kinks in the offense. Only scoring ten points with a couple turnovers to start the game, the Buttons ended up scoring in each of their third quarter drives to close out the game.

Seniors Jaime Nava and Joe Nava and juniors Tyler Acosta and Jimin Suh all scored touchdowns to lead the Buttons to a 30-0 victory.

“It’s a team effort. These boys had to earn the decal on their helmet. That’s why they wear it,” said Coach Green. “But we need to minimize the mistakes.”

Senior quarterback Joe Nava, who threw for 138 yards and ran for 51, said, “If I could describe the game in one word, it would be exciting. Section R made a huge impact.”

English teacher Ms. Molbert, commented on the night saying, “This is the loudest Section R has been in four years.”
