Brennan VS Denton Guyer

Posted on 12/22/201311/04/2025 by Mark
After the Bears held Guyer on their first drive to a three and out there was a muff/bad bounce on the punt that went off a Bear and gave the ball back to Guyer at the Brennan 45 in which Guyer scored a touchdown. That drive set the tone for the Guyer game plan…long time consuming drives (9 plays, 4:13 of the clock on just 45 yards). The two drives before Brennan even had the ball used up over half of the 1st quarter.

The two teams traded punts and went into the 2nd quarter with Guyer leading 7-0.
At the 11:00 mark Brennan went on there first scoring drive of the game…71 yards on 7 plays using 3:49 to tie the score.

That score didn’t last long as Guyer got the ball at the 7:18 mark of the 2nd and chewed up 4:29 on 10 plays for 70 yards and took the lead and they never looked back.

Brennan punted and Guyer ran the clock out on the 2nd qt and the teams went to the locker rooms with a 14-7 Guyer lead.

Brennan started the 3rd quarter with a three and out and punted to Guyer and they started they’re first drive of the 2nd half at the Brennan 23. This drive was a thing a beauty. 77 yards, 6:54- YES 6:54 used up on the clock and they netted a FG to extend they’re lead to 10.

Brennan’s next drive finished up the 3rd qt and went shallow into the 4th but ended in a missed FG and yours truly was feeling discouraged. My feelings would be correct. Guyer took over and drove 77 yards once again on 9 plays with 4:45 of the clock chewed up (see the trend developing) and scored there 3rd touchdown of the game. It was 24-7 Guyer with a little over half of the 4th quarteremaining.

Da’shawn Key took over and showed us what he has been doing all season. A three play, 62 yard drive with Key doing most of the heavy lifting. There might be a glimmer. But the Wildcats dashed that with the final nail. Brennan tried an onside kick which the Wildcats recovered at midfield. They drove 50 yards in 6 plays using up another 3:09 of the clock and I knew then greater San Antonio would leave Jerry World without a win.

The final score was Denton Guyer 31-14 over the Brennan Beas. The Bears got behind early against a very talented Denton Guyer squad that had almost a perfect game.

Final stats were pretty close with one exception and that was time of possession. Brennan held the ball for just 17:04 and Guyer had 30:56!!!

Dashawn Key finished with 17 carries for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns and he went 8-15 passing for 129 yards.

Neither team gave up the ball on turnovers but the Bears did have 8 penalties for 70 yards and they came at very bad times.

And I have to point out that Brennan played the game without two key offensives players Makai Green and Troy Irby. This made it easy for Guyer to concentrate on Key and limited what they could do offensively. On a high note and one we hadnt seen in the previous games of the championships, Grant Watanabe was awarded the defensive player of the game award.

Great season for Grant and the entire Brennan squad. I had the plaesure of doing 6 Bears games this year and even though I am unbiased either way you get to know these kids and you do feel they’re heartbreak when it comes to an end. But congrats to them just the same.On Thursday and Friday, I will have my 2013 High School football WRAP-UP BLOG…yep, 2 parts because I got a lot of stuff to write about.
