Week 5 – O’Connor Panthers Vs Marshall Rams

Posted on 10/07/201211/04/2025 by Mark
Last night, I was at Farris stadium for my 6th District 27-5A game already this season between the O’Connor Panthers and the Marshall Rams.  It is always strange when O’Connor is the visiting team cause there campus is literally across the highway!!!  Brandeis is even closer to Farris as the stadium is in the Brandeis backyard!!!

It was absolutely perfect football weather last night; no sun or rain.  It was very cool and extremely windy.   Hanging banners in the wind is a not a fun experience.  Thank god I had wire ties and duct tape.
When Bobby Stautzenberger saw where I hung the radio banner, he was doubting my banner hangings skills.  I was like, “I am about 80% confident it is not going anywhere!”  Hey, when the game ended, the banner was still in the same place.  I even had a hard time removing all the duct tape!!   I am a, “MASTER BANNER HANGER!!!”

I have only lost 1 banner in my 16 years!!!  Don’t blame me, let’s blame the stupid folks at the stadium who locked the place up before I could get our banner after the game ended.  A wind storm arrived the next night and took the banner to a better place!!!

I worked an O’Connor game in Week 2 and the running back Tre Johnson had more rushing yards than the entire Clark Cougar offense.

In Week 4, I saw O’Connor again and Tre Johnson had 149 yards of total offense and so did the rest of the Panther offense.  That particular game was played in the rain and the defense or should I say Allan Wright had 3 interceptions.

I worked a Marshall game in Week 2 and it was a game the whole team probably wants to forget about!  Throw the video in the shred bin!!!

I was expecting O’Connor to run the ball with Tre Johnson and company.  But, Zach Galindo, the O’Connor quarterback, decided to use his arm and showcase the Panther passing game.  Wait a minute folks, this sounds like deja vu?  Madison did the same thing on Friday night!!! The Marshall Rams had a decent game but struggled to score points.

Zach Galindo, the O’Connor quarterback, was 12 for 16 passing for 253 yards with 6 touchdowns.  Yes, 6 touchdowns!!!  Trust me, I am a stat man; it is my job to add and subtract numbers!!!  At halftime, my assignment was to find the record for most touchdowns in a game for the state of Texas.  The state record is 9 and the area record is 8!!!  Wow!!!  Galindo didn’t play in the 2nd half and that was a very wise move by the O’Connor coaches!  You don’t want to risk an injury to a key player.

Galindo’s back-up, Troy Theinpont, was 4 for 7 passing for 91 yards and 1 touchdown.  My O’Connor stat board for receivers was full!!!  Ten Panthers caught the receptions from Galindo and Theinpont and six of them scored touchdowns.  Pretty impressive!!!

Nate Phillips had 3 catches for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Alonso Roscoe had 2 catches for 74 yards and 1 touchdown.
Tre Johnson had a 30 yard touchdown reception.
Billy Craft had 4 catches for 33 yards and 1 touchdown.
Seth Damrow had a 29 yard touchdown reception.
Devante Woods has a 67 yard touchdown reception.  This was the most incredible of all the touchdown passes.  The ball was intended for another receiver and it bounced off him and right in the hands of Woods!!!  Wow!!!

Oh, Tre Johnson, had an OK game running the ball…15 carries for 164 yards!!!!

Overall, O’Connor ran 46 plays for 524 yards!!!  It was an awesome performance!

The Marshall Rams ran 68 plays for 352 yards.  Dominic Ramirez, the quarterback, was 9 for 25 passing for 144 yards and 1 touchdown.  Running back, Rico Smith, had a total of 81 yards with both touchdowns.  Michael Inco, the tight end, had 2 catches for 68 yards all on one drive, but one of those receptions, he dragged at least 5 O’Connor defenders for 20 yards as nobody could tackle him!!!

The O’Connor Panthers will be a very tough team to beat in the playoffs.  They are really good!

Final score Marshall        14   (1-4, 0-3) O’Connor       49   (4-2, 3-1)

Next Thursday, I am back at Farris stadium for another District 27-5A game between the Jay Mustangs and the Taft Raiders.  Jay is one of the teams vying for a playoff spot!

I will be at Rutledge stadium Friday night for the HAMMER BOWL…Judson Rockets Vs the Wagner Thunderbirds.  I already know this game will be standing room only and one that you can forget about the records of the team!!!  I can’t wait.

I am taking Saturday night off from high school football and will be celebrating our 2 year wedding anniversary.
